BLACKIE & THE RODEO KINGS

Capital Music Hall
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 6th at (Doors )

Ottawa, ON –After a playing to a packed house for their CD launch last winter, The Cooper Brothers decided it was high time for another party and invited their friends Blackie & The Rodeo Kings to town for a not to be missed performance at Capital Music Hall (128 York Street) on Saturday, November 6th at (Doors at ).

With such classic hits as “The Dream Never Dies”, “Rock and Roll Cowboys”, “Show Some Emotion” and “I’ll Know Her When I See Her”, The Cooper Brothers took command of the radio airways throughout North America, with three singles cracking Billboard’s Hot 100. “The Dream Never Dies” went on to become one of the most played songs on U.S. radio in 1980 and earned an ASCAP Award as such. At home in Canada, the band was voted “Best New Group” in 1978, “Best MOR Group” in 1979 and “Best Overall Group” in 1980 by the Canadian Contemporary Music Programmers.
After a twenty year hiatus, The Cooper Brothers went down to Nashville in September 2009 to record their brand new all-original album with Grammy nominated producer Colin Linden at Masterlink Studio (Where Neil Young recorded Desert Moon). With a wealth of great songs, Dick & Brian Cooper began recording with an amazing line-up of session musicians including Audley Freed (Black Crowes, Jakob Dylan, Dixie Chicks), Dan Dugmore (Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor), Kevin McKendree (Brian Seltzer, Lee Roy Parnell), Lynn Williams (John Hiatt, Delbert McClinton) and Steve Mackey (Trisha Yearwood). The result is a fabulous new album called In From The Cold.
The new album features a special guest appearance by Jim Cuddy of Blue Rodeo, who sings a beautiful duet with Brian Cooper on one of the stand out tracks “Hard Luck Girl”. Texas roots rock legend and former Capricorn Records label mate, Delbert McClinton also sings and plays harp on the song “Jukebox.”  And coming full circle, Chuck Leavell, best known as the keyboard player for the Allman Brothers and The Rolling Stones, plays on four tracks. Chuck and the brothers go way back - he played on “Riding High” from The Cooper Brothers second album “Pitfalls of The Ballroom”.  Pedal steel icon, Dan Dugmore plays an emotional solo on one the album's highlights -'62 Fairlane, a song written  about Terry King, one of the band's original members who passed away a few years ago. The lead off single “That’s What Makes Us Great” was released to radio prior to the Olympics, just in time to capture our national pride, and received commercial airplay across the country. The accompanying video on Youtube was a fan favorite and put a collective smile on people’s faces from coast to coast.
After garnering strong sales locally, “In From The Cold” was released to retail stores nationally through Fontana North Distribution on October 5, 2010, to meet the demand of fans from Vancouver to St. John’s and beyond.
From humble beginnings, with a collective passion for well respected Canadian singer/songwriter Willie P. Bennett, Blackie & The Rodeo Kings came to life in 1995. Their debut CD High or Hurtin' was released in 1996 to critical acclaim throughout the country. Genuine friendship and a magical chemistry reunited the collectively successful solo artists in 1999 for their Juno Award winning release Kings of Love. The albums unique fusion of rock, roots, folk, blues and country, established the band as favorites with both fans and critics alike. Their 2004 Juno nominated release BARK featured 12 original tracks including the rock radio hit singles “Had Enough of Your Today” and “Stoned” that also hit the AAA radio charts in the U.S. In 2006 the band released Let’s Frolic that showcased some of the best material that these three talented songwriters have ever put to tape, including “The Fool Who Can’t Forget”, a ballad with country star Pam Tillis that is sure to give your heart strings a pull, raucous rockers like “Buried In Your Heart” and infectious life affirming anthems like “Life Is Golden”. To round out the decade, BARK released Swinging From The Chains of Love in 2009 to bring together all of their most loved songs onto one album.
Blackie & The Rodeo Kings are putting the finishing touches on their highly anticipated new offering Kings & Queens, an album of duets feature some of the top female singers in the business including Emmylou Harris, Lucinda Williams, Rosanne Cash, Pam Tillis and Patti Scialfa amongst others. The new album will be released in 2011.
